Now in its 15th year on the air The Fields of Bluegrass Radio Hour can be heard every Friday evening at 9PM (Eastern) during Friday Night Folk programming on WICR 88.7FM in Indianapolis.
Hosted by Cary Allen Fields, the program features classic bluegrass, new releases, old-timey numbers, Indianas own bluegrass bands, listener requests, and a good bluegrass gospel set to close out the program.
Live in-studio performances and phone interviews are often a regular part of the proceedings, as well.

Sure, its important to spin that good old gravy because folks like to hear the classics. And giving bluegrass fans an opportunity to hear the new stuff helps the music thrive and grow. Additionally, if you live in an area with a well of talent thats as wide and deep as Central Indianas and you dont draw from regional bands when youre putting that ol playlist together, youre blowin it BIGTIME!
With literally dozens of bands to choose from, a few area favorites will figure prominently in the playlist this week. World-class banjo player C.W. Mundy has a new CD project called Road Trip and enlisted the help of cats such as Randy Kohrs, Scott Vestal, and Jim VanCleve to help make this one a gem. Cornfields & Crossroads, Reel Tyme String Band, The White Lightning Boys, and Tim Grimm will all be on hand to help us roll on, buddy.
In addition, Tony Rice, David Grisman, Audie Blaylock, Sam Bush, Darin & Brooke Aldridge, Flatt & Scruggs, The Stanley Brothers, and two bands that will be part of our Bill Monroe Birthday Bash at The Pixy Theatre, Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen and The Hillbenders join us on the program.
If you’re in Indianapolis, tune in to 88.7 on your FM dial at 9PM EASTERN during “Friday Night Folk” programming on WICR.
Not in Indy? Not a problem! The show will be posted here on the site later this week and remains on our player for 7 days.
