June 19th is Father’s Day and bluegrass, being the honest and true-to-life musical form that it is, suffers no shortage of songs honoring the dads in our lives.
We’ll get started with one from “The Father of Bluegrass” Bill Monroe, and songs from Norman & Nancy Blake, IIIrd Tyme Out, Ronnie Bowman, Ricky Skaggs, Blue Moon Rising, Del McCoury, The Country Gentlemen and many more will all visit the subject of fathers and the folks that love them.
We’ll have a couple of old-time numbers in the program to get ready for an event dad would surely enjoy. The Prairie Acre from down Lawrence, Kansas way will be at Antique Helper Auction House June 23rd. And not only will we spin one from their new “My Horses Ain’t Hungry” album, we’ll be giving away a pair of tickets on-air, too!
